Protective effect of helmet use on cervical injury in motorcycle crashes: A case–control study

Park GJ, et al. - Researchers evaluated the preventive effect of helmet use on cervical spine injuries in this case–control study performed using data of 2,600 patients from the Emergency Department-based Injury In-depth Surveillance registry in Korea. Of these, 1,145 (44.0%) used a helmet at the time of motorcycle crashes. Cervical spine injury was less frequent among those who used helmet. In addition, they identified helmet use as helpful in preventing intensive care unit (ICU) admission and mortality.
