Prostate-only vs whole-pelvis radiation with or without a brachytherapy boost for Gleason grade group 5 prostate cancer: A retrospective analysis
European Urology Apr 19, 2019
Sandler KA, et al. -Investigators assessed 1,170 subjects with biopsy-proven Gleason grade group (GG) 5 prostate cancer (PCa) from 11 centers in the US and one in Norway treated between 2000 and 2013 to quantify the outcome of whole-pelvis radiotherapy (WPRT) on candidates with GG 5 PCa managed with external-beam radiotherapy (EBRT) or EBRT with a brachytherapy boost (EBRT + BT). They did not observe any link between WPRT and improved prostate cancer-specific survival or distant metastasis-free survival in these patients. They did find a correlation between WPRT and a significant improvement in biochemical recurrence-free survival (bRFS) among participants receiving EBRT + BT.
