Prostate cancer rates in patients with initially negative elastography-targeted biopsy vs. systematic biopsy
World Journal of Urology Jan 18, 2018
Kratzenberg J, et al. - The goal of this paper was to examine if real-time elastography-targeted biopsy (RTE-bx) was superior to the standard systematic transrectal ultrasound (TRUS)-guided biopsy in speculating subsequent prostate cancer (PCa) rates in patients with initially negative biopsy. By comparing both biopsy methods, authors also aimed to illustrate variations in the occurrence of high-grade PCa. No statistically prominent link was reported between prior biopsy method to subsequent PCa or high-grade PCa occurrence. It was inferred that RTE was not superior to systematic biopsy (sbx) in predicting subsequent PCa rates. Hence, it was not eligible for consideration in the decision-making of repeat biopsy.
