Prostate cancer prognosis after initiation of androgen deprivation therapy among statin users: A population-based cohort study
Prostate Cancer & Prostatic Diseases Apr 03, 2021
Peltomaa AI, Raittinen P, Talala K, et al. - Researchers assessed how statins impact prostate cancer prognosis in patients who received androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). They analyzed 8,253 prostate cancer cases identified in the study population of a Finnish randomized study of screening for prostate cancer. These were limited to 4,428 males who started ADT during the observation period. A reduced risk of prostate-specific antigen relapse and prostate cancer death was reported in relation to statin use following ADT. In this study, statin administration after initiation of ADT, but not before, was identified to be related to improved prognosis of prostate cancer.
