Prospective study of the efficacy of a ketogenic diet in 20 patients with Dravet syndrome
Seizure - European Journal of Epilepsy Jul 05, 2018
Yan N, et al. - In this prospective study, the efficacy and tolerability of the ketogenic diet (KD) on generalized convulsions and status epilepticus (SE) in subjects with Dravet syndrome (DS) were assessed. Participants in the study were subjects with DS having ≥ 2 generalized convulsions/month, despite drug treatment were involved and put on a KD for 6 months. Researchers assessed the efficacy of KD by monitoring the incidence and duration of seizures at 3 and 6 months vs baseline. By month 6, seizures decreased by 50–89% in six patients and 90–99% in one patient, while 10 patients were seizure free. The findings demonstrated that the KD was a good treatment option for medically intractable epilepsy.
