Prospective pilot study of cerebral near infrared spectroscopy monitoring during pre-hospital anaesthesia
Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica Jun 02, 2018
Angerman S, et al. - Researchers tested the feasibility of cerebral near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) during pre-hospital anaesthesia. They also quantified the changes in front lobe regional oxygen saturation (rSO2) during the pre-hospital phase. Patients with median age 55 years and indications for pre-hospital anaesthesia [neurological reasons (29%), intoxication (23%), traumatic brain injury (23%) and successful resuscitation from cardiac arrest (16%)] were examined. They found that NIRS monitoring was feasible during pre-hospital anaesthesia. In some patients, substantial changes were detected. Moreover, it had utility in providing data beyond the standard monitoring used in the pre-hospital setting.
