Prospective evaluation of MRI compared with CT for the etiology of abdominal pain in Emergency Department patients with concern for appendicitis
Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Mar 27, 2019
Harringa JB, et al. - In this prospective, observational cohort study, researchers compared the sensitivity of MRI and computed tomography (CT) for acute abdominopelvic Emergency Department (ED) diagnoses. Study participants included ED patients ≥12 years old and undergoing CT for possible appendicitis. The CT/MR images of 113 patients showed 15 different acute diagnoses. Data reported that sensitivity of consensus reads was 82.0%, 87.1%, 92.2%, respectively. When diagnosing acute, non-traumatic abdominopelvic pathology in the cohort, the sensitivity of CE-MR was comparable to CT.
