Prospective cohort study of risk factors for extended-spectrum Ã-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli urinary tract infections in elderly patients admitted to hospital
International Journal of Clinical Practice Sep 08, 2017
Artero A, et al. Â The clinicians attempted this study to identify the prevalence of and risk factors for extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing E. coli in elderly patients with urinary tract infections (UTI) admitted to hospital. They reported that healthcare-associated UTI was a risk factor for ESBL-producing E. coli in elderly patients with UTI admitted to hospital. These findings would aid physicians in selecting empirical antibiotics in an overall high rate setting of ESBL-producing E. coli.
