Prospective associations of dietary carbohydrate, fat, and protein intake with β-cell function in the CODAM study

den Biggelaar LJCJ, et al. - Researchers analyzed prospective data of individuals recruited from the CODAM (Cohort on Diabetes and Atherosclerosis Maastricht) study population, to determine if dietary macronutrient intake predicts pancreatic β-cell function (BCF). Polysaccharide and trans fat intake were shown to be associated with worse BCF, whereas increased intake of MUFA, dietary cholesterol, and fiber were shown to be related to better BCF in this population at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes mellitus.
