Proportion and clinical relevance of intraspinal air in patients with pneumomediastinum
American Journal of Roentgenology Jun 10, 2018
Behr G, et al. - Researchers searched radiologic database in order to ascertain the incidence of pneumorrhachis among patients with pneumomediastinum and ascertained whether its proportion correlates with the extent of pneumomediastinum as well as determine its clinical relevance in this investigation. No significant difference in age or sex between patients with and those without pneumorrhachis was found. It was observed in the findings that pneumorrhachis was present in 5.8% of patients. In patients with the broadest distributions of mediastinal air, it was significantly more common. Nonsignificantly more common in association with spontaneous as opposed to secondary pneumomediastinum. In patients with pneumomediastinum, pneumorrhachis was a generally benign, self-resolving condition.
