Prophylactic mesh reinforcement vs sutured closure to prevent incisional hernias after open abdominal aortic aneurysm repair via midline laparotomy: A systematic review and meta-analysis
European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Apr 26, 2018
Indrakusuma R, et al. - Researchers sought to assess if prophylactic mesh reinforcement of the abdominal wall at open abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair via midline laparotomy reduces the rate of incisional hernia compared to standard sutured closure. They noted a significant reduction in the risk of incisional hernia with prophylactic mesh reinforcement of the abdominal wall after open AAA repair via midline laparotomy. However, there appeared no significant difference in re-operation for incisional hernia.
