Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics Sep 04, 2017
Abdelgawad AA, et al. – This study determined if prophylactic intramedullary Rush rodding after lengthening for congenital femoral deficiency (CFD) is an effective method to prevent femoral fracture and assessed potential complications. After CFD lengthening, femoral fractures can be safely and effectively prevented by prophylactic intramedullary rodding. Use of 4.76 mm rod was preferred. The risk of infection was acceptable, when compared with the risk of fracture, loss of length, and angulation.
