Prophylactic granisetron for post-spinal anesthesia shivering in caesarean section: A randomized controlled clinical study
Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica May 20, 2018
Abdel-Ghaffar HS, et al. - Researchers tested their hypothesis that prophylactic granisetrone (serotonin antagonist) might attenuate the incidence of post-spinal anesthesia shivering in cesarean section. They assessed parameters including hemodynamics, tympanic membrane temperature, neonatal Apgar score, shivering score, patient satisfaction scores about shivering prophylaxis and adverse effects for subjects allocated to receive 0.9% saline, 1 mg granisetron, or 0.7 mg granisetron before the spinal block. Findings demonstrated that reduction in the incidence, as well as in the severity of perioperative shivering, was achieved in an effective and dose-dependent manner by the use of prophylactic granisetron, compared to placebo controls.
