Prophylactic continuous positive airway pressure after pulmonary lobectomy: A randomized controlled trial
Journal of Thoracic Disease Jun 14, 2018
Palleschi A, et al. - Researchers investigated if a prophylactic application of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) following pulmonary lobectomy could attenuate postoperative complications in patients with clinical stage I non-small cell lung cancer. Two groups were formed: the study group received CPAP (PEEP 8–12 cmH2O, 2 hours thrice daily for three days) and the control group received standard postoperative pain management and physiotherapy. They found that for preventing postoperative complications in patients who underwent pulmonary lobectomy for stage I non-small cell lung cancer, prophylactic application of CPAP during the postoperative period affords an effective option.
