Tran QK, et al. - Researchers investigated the probability of clinically significant infection (CSI) among patients with vs without prophylactic antibiotics for anterior nasal packing due to spontaneous epistaxis. Searching PubMed, Embase, and Scopus databases, they included 5 articles for this meta-analysis; these included 383 patients receiving anterior nasal packing. Prophylactic antibiotics were not administered to 160 (42%) patients while 223 (58%) patients received antibiotics. Outcomes suggest that probably prophylactic antibiotics are not required for anterior nasal packing as there was low proportion of CSIs across heterogeneous patient populations.
