PROMs following breast-conserving therapy for breast cancer: Results from a prospective longitudinal monocentric study
Supportive Care in Cancer Oct 29, 2019
Kindts I, et al. - Researchers sought to determine patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and long-term aesthetic outcome (AO) related to radiotherapy (RT) in the breast-conserving therapy (BCT) setting for breast cancer over time in order to accurately foresee the side effects attributed to RT. AO was scored by 175 patients who were treated with BCT between April 2015 and April 2016 and by the BCCT.core software. In addition, assessment of PROMs was done with the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire QLQ-C30/-BR23 and the Body Image after Breast Cancer Questionnaire BIBCQ. Outcomes revealed that RT led to temporary impairment of quality of life and body image. Long-term AO was scored as unfavorable by about one-third of patients. They recommend discussing these results with the patient and considering them when making decision regarding the treatment plan and in the clarification of the patient’s expectations.
