Prolonged estrogen deprivation is associated with increased cardiovascular disease risk among women with primary ovarian insufficiency

Christ J, et al. - This study sought to investigate the role of estrogen exposure and deficiency among women with primary ovarian insufficiency (POI) in predicting the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). The findings displayed a link between prolonged estrogen deprivation with an increased risk of CVD. On the other hand, prolonged estrogen exposure was related to reduced risk of the disease. Hence, an early and continued use of estrogen replacement therapy was recommended in women with POI.
