Prolonged clinical remission and low disease activity statuses are associated with better quality of life in systemic lupus erythematosus
Lupus Jul 22, 2019
Poomsalood N, et al. - Via a study, 237 systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) cases who visited an outpatient clinic during the previous 12 months were assessed by the researchers in order to discover the correlation between disease activity status and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in SLE subjects. A hundred, 46 and 91 cases attained prolonged clinical remission (CR), prolonged low disease activity (LDA) and were not in CR/LDA, respectively. In comparison to CR/LDA patients, non-CR/LDA subjects had significantly greater total Systemic Lupus Erythematosus-specific Quality-of-Life questionnaire (SLEQoL) score and in all domains. Between CR and LDA groups, no important variation in SLEQoL domain scores was determined. Non-CR/LDA was positively correlated with SLEQoL score vs CR/LDA. Moreover, non-CR/LDA was at a higher risk of impaired QoL in contrast to CR. In terms of the SLEQoL score or impaired QoL, no notable variation between CR and LDA could be discovered. Damage index and anemia were other factors correlated with higher SLEQoL scores. Hence, in SLE patients, prolonged CR and LDA were concluded to be related to better HRQoL and had a comparable impact. Moreover, to target an approach in SLE, prolonged CR or optional LDA may be practiced as the treatment goal of a treat.
