Proliferative verrucous leukoplakia and its tumor markers: Systematic review and meta-analysis
Head & Neck Apr 21, 2019
Rintala M, et al. - Investigators studied data to estimate oral proliferative verrucous leukoplakia (PVL) (a disease of verrucous-like lesions with a high risk of malignancy) along with its biomarkers. They found consistent aneuploidy (I2 = 0%) in 92% of the PVL cases. They also noted P53 positivity prevalence of 27% in 2 available studies (I2 = 0%). They noticed that the most outlying studies needed to be removed. After that the pooled HPV positivity prevalence (I2 = 24%) of 5% and for Ki-67 (I2 = 9%) 14% were reported with human papillomavirus (HPV) and Ki-67. They assumed aneuploidy as a biomarker of PVL with the evidence of the prevailing literature.
