Progressive cortical thinning in patients with focal epilepsy
JAMA Neurology Oct 27, 2019
Galovic M, van Dooren VQH, Postma TS, et al. - In this case-control study of 331 adults with 678 MRI scans, researchers exhibited progressive cortical thinning in individuals with focal epilepsy different from cortical thinning related to normal aging. A total of 190 individuals with focal epilepsy were contrasted with 141 healthy controls. Widespread progressive cortical thinning may happen in individuals with focal epilepsy exceeding that observed with normal aging. These findings seem to reflect the requirement to produce epilepsy disease-modifying treatments to obstruct or impede ongoing atrophy. Moreover, longitudinal cortical thickness measurements may have the ability to labor as biomarkers for the before-mentioned studies.
