Progress in adolescent health and wellbeing: Tracking 12 headline indicators for 195 countries and territories, 1990–2016
The Lancet Mar 18, 2019
Azzopardi PS, et al. - In this investigation, researchers presented country-level estimates of 12 headline indicators from the Lancet Commission on adolescent health and wellbeing, from 1990 to 2016. Data reported that remarkable shifts in adolescent health occurred from 1990 to 2016. Findings revealed that though the burden of disease has dropped in many settings, demographic shifts have increased global inequalities. Since 1990, the burden of global disease has changed little and the prevalence of many health risks (tobacco smoking, binge drinking, overweight, and anaemia) for adolescents has increased. Health, education, and legal systems have not kept pace with changing needs and demographic changes in adolescents. Gender inequity in many countries continues to be a powerful driver of poor adolescent health.
