Programmed death receptor Ligand 1 expression in eyelid sebaceous carcinoma: A consecutive case series of 41 patients
Acta Ophthalmologica Apr 19, 2019
Xu S, et al. - At the Ninth People's Hospital between August 1, 2013, and September 1, 2016, researchers studied the expression level of programmed death receptor Ligand 1 (PD-L1) in sebaceous carcinoma (SC) in this single-center, retrospective, and comparative study. They noted SCs at the following locations: 2.4% of the SCs at the canthus, 51.2% at the upper eyelid, 41.5% at the lower eyelids whereas 2.4% invaded the lacrimal sac. They found 24.4% of the SCs metastatic, 48.8% primary tumors, and 26.8% resulted from recurrence. They observed PD-L1 positive expression in 48.8% of cases. A correlation of higher expression of PD-L1 was noticed with metastatic cases in comparison with primary cases. Inhibition of PD-L1 expression seemed to be a therapeutic choice for metastatic eyelid SCs.
