Prognostication after cardiac arrest: Results of an international, multi-professional survey
Resuscitation May 08, 2019
Steinberg A, et al. - Researchers distributed a survey through professional societies and research networks to investigate a diverse cohort of medical providers for their preferences for prognostic test performance characteristics and error tolerance in decisions regarding withdrawal or continuation of life-sustaining therapy (LST) after cardiac arrest. Overall, 640 respondents, mostly attending physicians (74%) with >10 years of experience (59%) and practicing at academic centers (77%), participated in this survey. For LST withdrawal (≤0.1%) and continuation (≤1%) after cardiac arrest, low acceptable FPR was supported by the medical providers. Compare to that attained with current prognostic modalities, these FPRs may be lower.
