Prognostic value of ultrasound stratigraphy in long-term weight loss: Results from a Nutritional Counseling Program
Obesity Facts Nov 16, 2019
De Toni L, Petre GC, Garolla A, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective study to examine the prognostic value of early variations of anthropometric and hormonal parameters, with a centre on ultrasound stratigraphy (US) and the decline in BMI related to nutritional counseling/lifestyle interventions at 6-month follow-up. This investigation was carried out at the Foresta Foundation O.N.L.U.S. (Padova, Italy) from February 2014 to December 2018. The sample consisted of 95 Caucasian males who were affected by BMI values indicating overweight (25 < BMI < 29.9) or class I obesity (30 < BMI < 34.9) and presented at the Foundation with the aim of weight control. The data presented in this work showed a significant reduction in BMI and an increase in T level at 6 months. In the multiple stepwise regression analysis, a variation of TRC muscle thickness at 2 months was the only independent predictor of ΔBMI 6 mo. In the follow-up of nutritional/lifestyle interventions for overweight-to-mildly obese patients, BMI evaluation and US are useful monitoring tools. It is necessary to consider the significant effects on motivation and adherence to the intervention program.
