Prognostic value of systemic inflammatory markers in ovarian cancer: A PRISMA-compliant meta-analysis and systematic review
BMC Cancer Apr 25, 2018
Zhu Y, et al. - Using data from relevant publications in PubMed, ISI Web of Science, and EBSCO, researchers assessed the predictive values of systemic inflammatory markers, including neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), in ovarian cancer patients. They used a fixed or random effects model to determine pooled hazard ratios (HRs) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) for overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). Compared with the control group, worse OS and shorter PFS were seen in the group having higher NLR, in multivariate analysis. Poorer OS and more unfavorable PFS were related to PLR values higher than the cut-off. The predictive effects of NLR and PLR were stronger when their cut-off values were higher. Overall, NLR and PLR values showed a link with ovarian cancer survival, so inflammatory markers can potentially serve as prognostic biomarkers.
