Prognostic value of S1PR1 and its correlation with immune infiltrates in breast and lung cancers

BMC Cancer Aug 19, 2020

Zhong L, Xi L, Yang Z, et al. - In this study, researchers examined the role of sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor (S1PR1) in tumor development and prognosis, given its known involvement in vascular development, a key process in tumorigenesis. They used TIMER and Oncomine database for assessing S1PR1 expression levels, and used PrognoScan and Kaplan-Meier plotter databases to determine the prognostic significance of S1PR1. They used TIMER to analyze the correlation between S1PR1 and tumor-infiltrated immune cells. Breast and lung cancer tissues showed significantly lower S1PR1 expression vs corresponding normal tissues. In breast invasive carcinoma, lung adenocarcinoma, and lung squamous cell carcinoma, they noted correlation of lower expression with poor overall survival and disease-free survival. The function of S1PR1 in regulating vasculogenesis was confirmed in the functional network analysis. In breast and lung cancer, there was a positive correlation of S1PR1 levels with multiple immune markers. Correlations between S1PR1 and prognosis and immune cell infiltration should trigger more research on the immunomodulatory role S1PR1 has in cancer .
