Prognostic value of rising mean platelet volume during hospitalization in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention
BMC Cardiovascular Disorders Dec 13, 2018
Avci E, et al. - In this retrospective study study including 480 consecutive ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI), researchers investigated the association of in-hospital changes in mean platelet volume (MPV) and mortality. A total of 370 and 110 patients were grouped as survivors or non-survivors, respectively. Change in MPV (MPV at 48–72 h minus MPV on admission) was defined as ΔMPV. According to findings, rising MPV during hospitalization was related to long-term mortality in STEMI patients treated with pPCI. A significant net reclassification improvement estimated at 24.5% and an integrated discrimination improvement of 0.014 were reported in relation to addition of ΔMPV to a multivariable model.
