Prognostic value of myometrial invasion and TCGA groups of endometrial carcinoma
Gynecologic Oncology Jun 04, 2021
Raffone A, Travaglino A, Raimondo D, et al. - For managing patients with endometrial carcinoma (EC), 2021 ESGO/ESTRO/ESP guidelines encourage molecular classification and propose a new prognostic risk stratification based on both pathologic and molecular features. Given the crucial value of deep myometrial invasion (DMI) as a risk factor in EC, researchers sought to determine if its prognostic value is independent from The Cancer Genome ATLAS (TCGA) groups. Through 5 electronic databases, they performed a systematic review and meta-analysis identifying five studies with 2,469 patients for inclusion in the systematic review and 3 studies with 1,549 patients for inclusion in the meta-analysis. Researchers suggest this work to be the first systematic review and meta-analysis on this topic. Findings do not support the independent value of DMI as prognostic factor for overall survival in EC patients; instead, it appears to affect the risk of recurrence independently from the TCGA groups.
