Prognostic value of microscopic hematuria after induction of remission in antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies-associated vasculitis
American Journal of Nephrology May 27, 2019
Vandenbussche C, et al. - Given that pauci-immune glomerulonephritis (PIGN) represents a major prognostic factor in antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies-associated vasculitis (AAV), researchers performed this multicenter retrospective study to examine patients in remission from a first flare of PIGN in order to assess the prognostic value of microscopic hematuria in these subjects. Participants included all patients with histologically proven PIGN in northern France. These patients suffered a first renal flare of AAV between 2003 and 2013 and were treated with conventional induction therapy and were considered in remission. According to the findings, there was no link between hematuria at remission after a first PIGN flare and end-stage renal disease, however, a relation of the former with the occurrence of renal relapse within 44 months of remission was evident.
