Prognostic value of hyperlactatemia and lactate clearance after mitral valve surgery

Evans AS, et al. - The associations of blood lactate level and lactate clearance with 30-day mortality and major adverse events in patients undergoing mitral valve surgery were investigated in this retrospective database review, using logistic regression. Findings demonstrated that postoperative elevated blood lactate level was common and the majority of patients well-tolerated it. Notably, the predictive value of the blood lactate level was improved as a result of adding lactate clearance.
