Prognostic value of histopathologic pattern for long-term surgical outcomes of 198 patients with confirmed mesial temporal lobe epilepsy
Human Pathology Jun 15, 2021
Xu K, Wang X, Guan Y, et al. - Researchers intended to determine if there is an association between different hippocampal sclerosis (HS) subtypes and postoperative seizure outcomes for intractable temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) patients. One hundred ninety-eight TLE patients who had ATL surgery from January 2008 to December 2018 were retrospectively reviewed, and all patients had a complete preoperative evaluation, a specimen of hippocampal tissue after surgery, a cognitive test after surgery, and more than 2 years of postoperative follow-up. The prognosis of TLE patients was associated with HS subtypes, and other variables were predictors of different HS types. A subsequent study was planned to identify the HS subtypes through non-invasive evaluation in order to approve better postoperative outcomes.
