Prognostic value of elevated lipoprotein(a) in patients with acute coronary syndromes
European Journal of Clinical Investigation May 11, 2019
Gencer B, et al. - In the acute setting of patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS), researchers studied the prognostic value of lipoprotein(a) (Lp[a]). At the time of angiography, Lp(a) plasma levels were obtained from 1,711 patients from a prospective Swiss multicenter cohort who were hospitalized for ACS. In all, levels of Lp(a) range from 2.5 mg/dL to 132 mg/dL, with a mean of 6 mg/dL and a mean of 14.2 mg/dL, respectively. Investigators found that high levels of Lp(a) at the time of angiography were not predictive for cardiovascular outcomes in otherwise well-controlled patients, but may be useful in identifying patients who would not be achieving LDL-C targets 1 year after ACS.
