Prognostic value of electrocardiographic abnormalities in adults from the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health
Heart Dec 27, 2020
Pinto-Filho MM, Brant LC, Padilha dos Reis R, et al. - In this study including participants from the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health, free of known cardiovascular disease (CVD) at baseline, researchers assessed the role of ECG in the prediction of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality. At baseline, a 12-lead ECG was collected. A follow-up for 8±1 years was performed in 13,428 participants (median age 51 years, 45% men). In 2.8% and 1.2% of the population, the occurrence of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality was reported, respectively. Findings showed that an independent predictor of overall and cardiovascular mortality was the presence of major electrocardiographic abnormality. Experts also suggest a possible role of ECG in risk prediction of cardiovascular death in primary care.
