Prognostic value of B‐type natriuretic peptide in liver transplant patients: Implication in posttransplant mortality
Hepatology Jun 20, 2021
Kwon HM, Moon YJ, Kim KS, et al. - Researchers aimed at determining the correlation between B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) and mortality in a large cohort of liver transplant (LT) patients . In addition, they investigated risk factors for peri-LT BNP increase. From the Asan LT Registry between 2008 and 2019, they analyzed 3,811 patients who had assessment of serial pretransplant BNP (preBNP) and peak BNP levels within the first 3 posttransplant days (postBNPPOD3). Findings revealed marked prevalence of postBNPPOD3 > 400 pg/mL after LT in advanced liver disease and its correlation with mainly elevated preBNP. They suggest that incremental prognostic information is gained via performing routine monitoring of peri-LT BNP; hence, it could allow risk stratification for mortality as a practical and useful biomarker in LT.
