Prognostic value of age, subglottic, and anterior commissure involvement for early glottic carcinoma treated with CO2 laser transoral microsurgery: A retrospective, single-center cohort study of 261 patients
European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology Feb 19, 2018
Carta F, et al. - Experts sought to assess how patient age and tumor site could have a negative impact on the prognosis of early glottic carcinoma treated with CO2 laser transoral microsurgery. They also analyzed the status of the margins of resection, tobacco and alcohol intake, and the grade of differentiation of the tumors. For young and elderly patients with glottic carcinoma, CO2 laser transoral microsurgery could be an efficacious and reproducible single-stage modality therapy. A careful wait-and-see policy could be managed by the superficial close margins, whereas positive margins ought to undergo surgical enlargement. It was determined that undifferentiated tumors, true subglottic extension, and anterior commissure involvement of grade 3 were related to the worse outcomes.
