Prognostic significance of vascular and valvular calcifications in low- and high-gradient aortic stenosis
European Heart Journal – Cardiovascular Imaging Mar 13, 2021
Harbaoui B, Ghigo N, Boussel L, et al. - This research was sought to correlate the respective contributions of thoracic aortic calcifications (TACs) and valvular aortic calcification (VAC) on 3-year cardiovascular (CV) mortality following TAVI in low-gradient aortic stenosis (LGAS) vs. high-gradient aortic stenosis (HGAS) patients. Researchers assessed a total of 1,396 consecutive patients were included. TAC and VAC on the pre-TAVI CT-scan. The results of this study exhibited that in LGAS, TAC plays a major prognostic role while VAC remains the key in HGAS patients. Moreover, this validates that LGAS is a complex vascular and valvular disease.
