Prognostic significance of minimal hepatic encephalopathy in patients with liver cirrhosis in Japan: A propensity score-matching analysis
Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology May 26, 2019
Hanai T, et al. - In cirrhotic patients, researchers clarified the prognostic significance of minimal hepatic encephalopathy (MHE). Three hundred fifty-seven consecutive patients with liver cirrhosis were evaluated. A neuropsychiatric test was used to diagnose MHE. Of the 269 patients who were eligible, 56 patients were diagnosed with MHE. Sixty-seven patients died during the median follow-up period of 13.4 months. According to this retrospective study, minimal hepatic encephalopathy was linked to an increased risk of mortality in liver cirrhosis patients, regardless of hepatocellular carcinoma stage or Child–Pugh score.
