Prognostic significance of liver stiffness assessed by fibrosis-4 index in patients with heart failure
ESC Heart Failure Jun 29, 2021
Takae M, Fujisue K, Yamamoto E, et al. - Researchers sought to determine how the fibrosis-4 (FIB4) index can impact the prognosis in patients suffering from heart failure (HF). They observed cardiovascular results in each type of HF [HF with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) (HFrEF), HF with mid-range LVEF (HFmrEF) and with preserved LVEF (HFpEF)] based on their FIB4 index; Group 1 (FIB4 index <1.3), Group 2 (FIB4 index: 1.3–2.67), and Group 3 (FIB4 index >2.67). Among HFpEF patients, a significantly higher rate of total cardiovascular events was observed in Group 3 vs the other two groups, as shown by the Kaplan–Meier curve. No difference in the occurrences of total cardiovascular events was found among three groups in HFrEF and HFmrEF patients. In this study, the FIB4 index was identified as a significant predictor for total cardiovascular events in HFpEF.
