Prognostic significance of insulin resistance in pulmonary hypertension
ESC Heart Failure Dec 21, 2021
Zare E, Kafshbani P, Chenaghlou M, et al. - In pulmonary hypertension (PH), dysregulation of glucose metabolism occurs, and insulin resistance (IR) may elevate the risk of adverse events in these patients.
In this study of 59 non-diabetic PH patients, 27% had IR considering the Iranian cut points of homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance.
In non-diabetic, non-metabolic syndrome patients with precapillary PH, IR prevalence was higher (34.2%) vs that in non-diabetic, non-metabolic syndrome Iranian population (24.1%).
Death rate in the follow-up period was 44.1%.
A slightly lower survival was noted in IR patients vs insulin sensitive patients; however, IR was not an independent predictor of death.
