Prognostic significance of inflammatory-related parameters in patients with anal canal cancer
International Journal of Colorectal Disease Jan 10, 2019
De Felice F, et al. - In 58 patients diagnosed with anal canal carcinoma and treated with curative intent chemoradiotherapy (CRT), researchers studied the relationship between inflammatory-related parameters and overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS). Investigators collected about pre-treatment complete blood count data. This is the first study to show that higher pre-treatment levels of neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), fibrinogen and a combination of these were significantly associated with worse survival results in these patients. The strongest OS prognostic factor in multivariate analysis was the NLR with a hazard ratio for low NLR compared to a high NLR of 1.30.
