Prognostic significance of FA score based on plasma fibrinogen and serum albumin in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer
Cancer Management and Research Aug 21, 2019
Li Y, et al. - Researchers assessed the prognostic value of fibrinogenand albumin (FA) score based on preoperative peripheral blood plasma fibrinogen and serum albumin in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) cases. They retrospectively gathered clinicopathological information about 186 cases of EOC. Factors that showed statistical correlation with overall survival (OS) postsurgery were tumor size, tumor grade, tumor stage, plasma fibrinogen, serum albumin, FA score and tumor marker CA125, as revealed in univariate and multivariate analyses. For prognosis prediction, the superiority of the complex index FA score over single plasma fibrinogen and serum albumin was shown. For postoperative patients with EOC whose tumor size is ≥ 6 cm, whose EOC is advanced (stages III–IV) and whose tumor stage is medium or high grade, a better prognostication could be done using the FA score. Overall, a close link of the FA score with clinicopathological features and OS of patients with EOC was found. FA score was identified as an independent risk factor indicating the prognosis of EOC patients.
