Prognostic roles of perioperative body mass index and weight loss in the long-term survival of gastric cancer patients
Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention Jun 08, 2018
Park YS, et al. - Researchers assessed the effect of three body mass index (BMI) variables (postoperative BMI, BMI loss, and preoperative BMI) and their interaction on long-term outcomes in gastric cancer (GC) patients. They performed preoperative BMI analysis of 2,063 GC patients who underwent curative gastrectomy between January 2009 and December 2013 at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital. In 1,845 of these cases, BMI at postoperative 6-12 months was available. Outcomes demonstrated that for survival in GC patients, the three BMI variables had prognostic value. An interaction between preoperative BMI and severe BMI loss was noted.
