Prognostic of interatrial block after an acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction
Cardiology May 25, 2019
Bruña V, et al. - Among 972 consecutive patients, researchers examined how the prognosis, including development of atrial fibrillation and stroke and long-term mortality, was influenced by the development of interatrial block (IAB) after an acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). The participants were observed over 49.6 ± 24.9 months and had a mean age of 62.6 ± 13.5 years. They reported the development of IAB in approximately one-quarter of patients discharged in sinus rhythm following an acute STEMI. Poor prognosis was observed among patients with advanced IAB (aIAB), although this was explained principally by the relation of aIAB with older age and other variables like hypertension.
