Prognostic nutritional index is associated with disease severity and relapse in ANCA-associated vasculitis
International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases Feb 12, 2019
Ahn SS, et al. - From October 2000 to September 2017, researchers examined 160 subjects to assess the clinical importance of prognostic nutritional index (PNI) in subjects with antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis (AAV). They noticed a positive relation between Birmingham vasculitis activity score (BVAS) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reactive protein (CRP) whereas a negative link was noted with lymphocyte count, serum albumin, and PNI. PNI was also significantly correlated with the included laboratory data. Overall, they suggested PNI useful in evaluating disease severity and predicting the prognosis of AAV cases.
