Prognostic nomogram for disease-specific survival in patients with non-metastatic ampullary carcinoma after surgery
Annals of Surgical Oncology Jan 25, 2019
Li HB, et al. - An individualized nomogram for forecasting disease-specific survival (DSS) in patients with non-metastatic ampullary carcinoma following surgery was prepared using retrospective data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. Researchers included 2,022 patients (training dataset: 1,276; validation dataset: 746 patients) with non-metastatic ampullary carcinoma who were surgically treated between 2004 and 2014. In univariate and multivariate regression analysis, independent risk factors for DSS were identified as age, grade, tumor size, lymph node ratio, extension range, and histology. The concordance index of the internal validation dataset for predicting DSS was 0.70, which was better than that of the American Joint Committee on Cancer Staging (0.64). Findings suggest the nomogram is reliable and accurate in predicting DSS in these patients.
