Prognostic indicators of survival in sinonasal extranodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma
The Laryngoscope Nov 28, 2019
Varelas AN, et al. - Given the highly aggressive nature of extranodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (ENKTL) of the sinonasal tract with poor overall survival (OS), researchers sought to report on epidemiologic, prognostic, and treatment factors for OS and disease-specific survival (DSS), incorporating newly accessible chemotherapy data. From the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database, they assessed 460 cases of sinonasal ENKTL. Findings revealed 5-year OS and DSS of 46% and 56%, respectively. This study represents the first work examining the use of chemotherapy for the treatment of sinonasal ENKTL using population-based analysis. Multivariate analysis revealed an association of higher Ann Arbor stage with worse OS and DSS, whereas an association of administration of radiotherapy with improved OS and DSS. Further, reduced OS was observed in correlation to a higher age at diagnosis. Improved OS and DSS for Ann Arbor stage I disease were observed in correlation to chemotherapy.
