Prognostic indicators lose their value with repeated resection of colorectal liver metastases
European Journal of Surgical Oncology Aug 03, 2018
Schmidt T, et al. - Outcomes and relevant prognostic factors after repeated hepatic resections for colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) were determined. From a prospective database, researchers analyzed 578 patients who underwent 788 resections of colorectal liver metastases. Findings suggest no relevance of established prognostic indicators (number, size and pattern of CRLM, R-status, surgical/medical complications, CEA-level and Fong-Score) in patients undergoing repeated CRLM resection. Repeated hepatic resections can be performed safely with favorable long-term outcomes in a highly-selected group of patients.
