Prognostic implication of fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography in patients with recurrent papillary thyroid cancer
Head & Neck Nov 24, 2017
Kang JH, et al. - The diagnostic value and prognostic role of fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) for patients with recurrent papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) was determined, regardless of the whole-body scintigraphy (WBS) results. The diagnostic value of 18F-FDG PET/CT for localizing recurrent lesions was poor compared to neck CT, and patients with a higher maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) exhibited a notably worse prognosis than did those with a lower SUVmax. Hence, 18F-FDG PET/CT should be taken into account for prognostication rather than diagnosis in patients with recurrent PTC.
