Prognostic implication of electrocardiographic left ventricular strain in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation
American Journal of Cardiology Jun 25, 2018
Al-Hijji M, et al. - In this study with patients who underwent transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) between January 2012 and March 2016 at the Mayo Clinic, researchers studied the differential effect of baseline electrocardiographic (ECG) strain on long-term mortality post-TAVI. The main focus was on all-cause long-term mortality. A screening was performed in 520 patients, of whom 130 were excluded due to left bundle branch block or paced rhythm. Participants were followed-up for 1.5-years. Findings demonstrated that ECG strain could independently predict long-term mortality post-TAVI. In the risk-stratification of patients undergoing TAVI, systematic strain measurements might be helpful.
