Prognostic impact of preoperative comorbidities in geriatric patients with early-stage lung cancer: Significance of sublobar resection as a compromise procedure
Lung Cancer Dec 08, 2018
Yutaka Y, et al. - In this retrospective study, researchers assessed perioperative safety and long-term survival of palliative sublobar resection (SR) in high-risk operable geriatric patients with early-stage lung cancer and noncancerous comorbidities, given a possible role of noncancerous comorbidities in unfavorable outcomes in this patient population. Participants were 232 patients (141 male, 91 female) aged ≥75 years who had surgical resection of clinical stage I lung cancer from 2006 to 2014. Findings revealed a significant prognostic role of the severity of preoperative comorbidities, as well as demonstrated promising short- and long-term outcomes of SR as a compromise surgical procedure in selected geriatric patients with clinical stage I lung cancer.
